PennDOT to Begin Construction on Swedesford Road Bridge Rehabilitation Project in East Whiteland Township

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will begin on Wednesday, July 17, on a project to rehabilitate the bridge that carries Swedesford Road over Chester Valley Trail in East Whiteland Township, Chester County.

Under this project, a Latex Modified Concrete (LMC) overlay will be applied to the existing 57-year-old single span bridge. Deck joints will be resealed, and substructure repairs will be made.

The current bridge is 38 feet long, 49 feet wide, and carries more than 9,000 vehicles per day.

Beginning on Wednesday, July 15, through Friday, August 14, Swedesford Road will be closed and detoured 24/7 between Route 401 (Conestoga Road) and Route 29 (Morehall Road) for bridge repairs. During the closure, drivers will be directed to use Route 401 (Conestoga Road), Business U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue), and Route 29 (Morehall Road).

Local access will be maintained at all times. Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area or through the detour route because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

The bridge repair is part of a $16.2 million project to rehabilitate 14 bridges in Bucks, Chester, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.

Loftus Construction, Inc. of King of Prussia, PA. is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.
