Market Street Bridge Construction to Close I-76 West (Schuylkill Expressway) Overnights at 30th Street through May in Center City Philadelphia

 

I-76 West will be reduced to one lane each night prior to the full closure

 

Philadelphia, PA -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that overhead bridge construction will continue to restrict and close westbound Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) overnight this spring under the $148.9 million project to rehabilitate the bridges that carry Market Street over Amtrak and I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway, the Schuylkill River Trail, and CSX Railroad in Center City Philadelphia.

Weather permitting, motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

Motorists are also reminded that the following restrictions will remain in place on 30th Street and Westbound Market Street through approximately Monday, June 1:

30th Street remains open for limited access to the west portico of 30th Street Station.

Through motorists and motorists traveling to Market Street using 30th Street will be directed to turn right onto JFK Boulevard to access Market Street near 32nd Street.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling along the detour routes or through the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur.

PennDOT is replacing Market Street bridges over Amtrak and I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway), redecking the Market Street Bridge over the Schuylkill River, and replacing the Market Street bridge over the Schuylkill River Trail and CSX Railroad on the east side of the river.
