The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to an in-person and virtual plans display regarding proposed Interstate 78 improvements in Upper Macungie and Weisenberg townships, Lehigh County. The in-person public plans display will be held at the Fogelsville Elementary School (312 PA 100, Breinigsville, PA 18031) on May 6, 2026, beginning at 6:00 PM.
The proposed improvements include the construction of a new interchange at Adams Road over I-78, the complete reconstruction of the I-78 and Route 100 interchange, and the complete reconstruction of mainline I-78 from the Berks/Lehigh County line to the U.S. 22 split. The purpose of the project is to eliminate substandard features in the corridor, reduce congestion, and accommodate planned growth in the region.
The virtual plans display will be available online, and public comments will be accepted from May 6, 2026, through June 5, 2026. Online information, including proposed detour route, detailed project information, and comment form, can be found by visiting the following link at the PennDOT District 5 website: Interstate 78 Reconstruction Berks County Line to Route 100 | Department of Transportation | Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
