Crawford Lane Bridge Beam Placement Scheduled in Westmoreland County

Uniontown, PA—Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing scheduled single-lane restrictions on the existing Crawford Lane Bridge, Interstate 70, and Finley Road, along with rolling closures on Interstate 70 in Rostraver Township, Westmoreland County. These traffic restrictions will begin at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 21, and continue through 6:00 AM on Thursday, January 22, weather permitting.

Crews will be placing prestressed concrete bridge beams for the new Crawford Lane Bridge over I-70.

To safely accommodate this operation:

  • Single-lane restrictions will occur in both directions on I-70 between the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad Bridge to the Exit 46 (Route 51/I-70 Interchange).
  • Rolling closures, lasting no longer than 15 minutes each, will occur in both directions on I-70 between the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad Bridge to the Exit 46 (Route 51/I-70 Interchange) to allow crews to lift and set the beams onto the abutments. These closures are necessary to ensure no lifting occurs over live traffic.
  • Flagging operations will take place on Finley Road to allow trucks to transport the beams to the new Crawford Lane Bridge site.
  • Flagging will also occur at the existing Crawford Lane Bridge.

Motorists are advised to use caution, expect short delays, and remain alert for changing traffic patterns in the work zone.

This work is part of the I-70 at Arnold City Interchange project, which connects Route 3011 (Finley Road/Indian Hill Road) and Daugherty Lane to I-70. The project aims to enhance safety and traffic operations at the interchange and along the interstate. The project area is approximately 1.75 miles long, extending from the I-70 bridge over the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad to 1.37 miles east of the Arnold City Interchange. Golden Triangle Construction Company, Inc. is the prime contractor.

The $89 million infrastructure investment will include widening the median from four (4) feet to 10 feet and the outside shoulders from 10 to 12 feet. The reconstructed interchange will utilize a diamond configuration with a five-leg roundabout connecting the eastbound ramps with Indian Hill Road and Finley Road. The westbound ramps will be rebuilt as standard diamond ramps with a non-signalized intersection. The roadway will be shifted approximately four (4) feet to the north to accommodate the widening.
