Interstate 70 Overnight Paving Begins This Evening in Westmoreland County

Uniontown, PA—Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing scheduled rolling stops, single-lane restrictions, and shoulder closures on Interstate 70 in Rostraver Township, Westmoreland County, beginning this evening, Wednesday, May 7.

On weekdays, overnight (6:00 PM-6:00 AM) restrictions will be in effect between the I-70/Route 51 interchange and the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad Bridge and are anticipated to last through mid-June.

Golden Triangle Construction Company, Inc. will conduct milling and paving in the westbound lanes, as well as aerial utility relocations with overhead interstate crossings in both eastbound and westbound lanes.

All work depends on the weather and operations.

This work is part of the I-70 at Arnold City Interchange project, which connects Route 3011, Finley Road, Indian Hill Road, and Daugherty Lane to I-70. The project aims to enhance safety and traffic operations at the interchange and along the interstate. The project area spans approximately 1.75 miles, extending from the I-70 bridge over the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad to 1.37 miles east of the Arnold City Interchange.

The $89 million infrastructure investment will include widening the median from four (4) feet to 10 feet and the outside shoulders from 10 to 12 feet. The reconstructed interchange will utilize a diamond configuration with a five-leg roundabout connecting the eastbound ramps with Indian Hill Road and Finley Road. The westbound ramps will be rebuilt as standard diamond ramps with a non-signalized intersection. The roadway will be shifted approximately four (4) feet to the north to accommodate the widening.

Motorists should exercise caution traveling through work zones and be alert for workers. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
