Pittsburgh, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing improvement work on Baptist Road (Route 3009) in Whitehall Borough, Allegheny County will begin Monday, July 6 weather permitting.
Southbound Baptist Road traffic will be detoured between the intersections of Brownsville Road/Provost Road and Weyman Road/Doverdell Road beginning at 9:00 AM Monday around-the-clock through late October to accommodate full-depth pavement reconstruction work. All southbound traffic will be detoured.
Posted detour
- From the intersection Provost Road/Brownsville Road intersection, head north on Provost Road to Route 51 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard)
- Turn left onto Route 51 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard)
- Take the right-hand ramp to 88 south toward Library Road/Glenbury Street
- Bear left to stay in the lane for southbound Route 88
- Turn left onto Hamilton Road
- Continue to the intersection with Baptist Road
- End detour
Drivers looking to head southbound from the following local roads will enter the work zone in the northbound direction and follow the detour route:
- Plymouth Road
- Baldwin Manor Road
- Old Boston Road
- Panama Lodge Drive
Additionally, the current configuration of a right-hand only turn lane and left-hand turn/through lane at the intersection with Brownsville Road/Provost Road will be reduced to a single lane of traffic. However, all traffic movements on northbound Baptist Road will be permissible at the intersection.
Please stay alert and drive cautiously – safety is everyone’s responsibility.
This $5.87 million project is anticipated to begin shortly after Independence Day on Baptist Road between Hamilton Road and Brownsville Road in Whitehall Borough. Work includes asphalt pavement reconstruction, drainage improvements, curb gutter replacement work, traffic signal upgrades, as well as guide rail, ADA curb ramp and signing/pavement marking updates. One-way detours will be implemented to allow this work to occur. The overall project is expected to conclude in the spring of 2028. Additional information will be provided to the public as work is scheduled.
