Pittsburgh, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing overnight lane restrictions on I-376 (Parkway East) in Edgewood Borough and the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will begin Monday night, March 2 weather permitting.
Median barrier reconstruction work requiring around- the-clock lane shifts will be implemented on I-376 in each direction between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange through mid-April. To allow this work to occur, single-lane restrictions will occur from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on Monday thought Thursday nights, March 2-5 to conduct line eradication, painting, and temporary barrier installation to facilitate traffic shifts for median barrier reconstruction work. Friday night, March 6 will be used as a make-up date for any weather impacts.
The Commercial Street Bridge replacement project will utilize Accelerated Bridge Construction Techniques to laterally slide the new bridge onto the existing alignment of I-376 (Parkway East), which would be one of the largest lateral slide projects performed in Pennsylvania. The $95 million project located between the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange and Squirrel Hill Tunnel in Edgewood and Swissvale boroughs, and the City of Pittsburgh began in June of 2024 with the reconstruction of the westbound I-376 off-ramp to Forest Hills/Wilkinsburg (Exit 78B). Tentatively, from July 10 through August 3, 2026, drivers can expect a 25-day full closure and detour of I-376. The overall project is anticipated to conclude in the summer of 2027.
