PennDOT Announces Proposal to Repair the Centerline Joints on Interstate 79 in Mercer County

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to view the plans for a project to repair the centerline joints for a portion of the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 79 in Lake Township, New Vernon Township, and Deer Creek Township, Mercer County.

This work area runs from Fredonia Road (Route 1004) bridge over Interstate 79 near mile maker 126 to the Crawford County line near mile maker 136.

The proposed project includes milling out the deteriorated and cracked sections between the lanes of traffic and replacing the asphalt.

Work is expected to start in August 2026 and to be completed in October 2026.

Traffic will be controlled by temporary, daylight lane closures.

The public may view information on the Interstate 79 Centerline Repairs project online at www.pa.gov/DOTDistrict1. Information can be found under the Projects Near You option located at the top of the webpage. The project page includes digital copies of the project handout and a comment form.

Those unable to access the information online may give feedback by contacting PennDOT Project Manager Brody Guth at brguth@pa.gov or 814-678-7355.

The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project. It is also an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the project’s potential effect upon Cultural Resources pursuant to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation’s 36 CFR Part 800 regulations implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.

The project documents will be made available in alternative languages or formats if requested.
