A $5.2 million project to replace the bridge that carries Jordan Road over Interstate 90 in Harborcreek Township in Erie County is set to start on March 24, 2025.
The bridge is located on Jordan Road (Route 4108) just south of Penn State Behrend college campus.
The project includes removal of the existing structure and construction a new concrete bridge that meets current vertical clearances standards. Work will also include minimal paving on each side of the new bridge, drainage improvements, minor landscaping as well as new guiderail, right-of-way fence, high tension cable barrier, signs, signing, and pavement markings.
Work is expected to begin March 24, 2025, and is expected to be completed by December 2025.
The project will require a detour, which will be posted using, Kuhl Road, Knowledge Parkway, (Route 4108), and Route 430 (Station Road). It is expected to start March 31, 2025, and be in place for nine months.
Nighttime lane restrictions and traffic pattern shifts for drivers on I-90 will be needed in connection with demolition of the existing bridge and placement of beams for the new structure. Notification of these traffic impacts will be announcement on digital message boards and announced by the PennDOT press office in advance.
The existing bridge was built in 1958. It is classified as poor condition and has a vertical clearance of 15 feet, 2 inches over the westbound traffic on I-90. Approximately 850 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.
The contractor is Francis J Palo Inc. Clarion, PA. The contract cost is $5,157026, which is to be paid entirely with federal funds.
