Planned work completed in the area of the railroad crossing just south of the Centerville Road bridge over Route 30
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that Centerville Road is open to traffic. Centerville Road was closed last Friday just south of the bridge spanning Route 30 and just north of Old Tree Drive so Norfolk Southern forces could complete reconstruction of the railroad crossing within the new limits required for the Centerville Road widening.
The planned railroad crossing work conducted by the railroad and associated tie-in work performed by the PennDOT contractor has been completed. Centerville Road is now open to two lanes in each direction throughout the project. Marietta Avenue (Route 23) remains one lane in the eastbound direction and is now two lanes in the westbound direction.
Work remains on this project, including milling and paving within the project limits. Travelers may encounter daytime lane restrictions on Centerville Road and nighttime restrictions on Route 30.
This work is part of the Centerville Road Interchange Improvement project, which consists of structure replacement, Superpave overlay, base replacement, roadway widening, milling, guiderail improvements, drainage improvements, pavement markings, ADA improvements, traffic signal improvements, and other miscellaneous construction.
The project includes work on Centerville Road from Cornerstone Drive to Marietta Avenue (Route 23), and Marietta Avenue from Centerville Road to Stony Battery Road. The project is primarily located in East Hempfield Township, though the section from Cornerstone Drive to Columbia Avenue is in Manor Township.
JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA is the prime contractor on this $36.3 million project. Work is expected to be completed in August of 2025.
