The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to view the plans for a proposed project to replace the bridge that carries Route 408 over Mohawk Run in Rockdale Township, Crawford County.
The bridge is located on Route 408 between the intersection with the Greytown Hills Road (Route 1031) and the intersection with New Richmond Road (Route 1033).
The project will include replacing the existing concrete bridge with a reinforced concrete box culvert. Work will also include minimal paving on each side of the bridge and shoulder backup.
Work is expected to occur during the 2026 construction season.
A detour will be required during construction and is expected to be in place for approximately four months. The proposed 27.5-mile detour route will be posted using Route 408, Route 86, Route 198, and Route 77.
The existing bridge was built in 1930. It is classified as poor condition. Approximately 1,200 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.
The information on the Route 408 Bridge Project, including a handout, digital plans, and an online comment form, is available online only. It can be accessed by visiting www.penndot.pa.gov/District clicking the Projects Near You and the District 1 link.
