Detours Planned for Route 994 (Pogue Road) and Route 3047 (4th Street) in Huntingdon County, Beginning Next Week for Railroad Crossing Maintenance

Detours run from June 9 to June 18, 2025

On behalf of Norfolk Southern Railroad, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is informing motorists of two upcoming closures and detours in Huntingdon County for maintenance removal and replacement of railroad crossings.  

The first will be a five-day closure and detour of Route 994 (Pogue Road) near Southern Huntingdon County High School in Three Springs, between McCoy Road and Wilson Road, from Monday, June 9, to Friday, June 13, 2025.

A detour of Route 994 (Pogue Road) will use Route 747 (Hill Valley Road), Route 2016 (Chester Furnace Road) and Route 994 (Valley Street).

The second will be a weeklong detour of Route 3047 (4th Street) in Huntingdon Borough and Smithfield Township from Wednesday, June 11 to Wednesday, June 18, 2025. Route 3047 (4th Street) will be closed between Route 26 (Penn Street) in Huntingdon Borough, and U.S. 22 (William Penn Highway) in Smithfield Township.

A detour will be in place using U.S. 22 (William Penn Highway), Route 3035 (Fairgrounds Road), Route 26 (Penn Street), and T504 (Pennsylvania Avenue).

As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.   

Additionally, PennDOT reminds motorists that as of June 5, 2025, the "Paul Miller's Law" is in effect. This law prohibits the use of hand-held devices while driving, even while stopped temporarily due to traffic, a red light, or other momentary delay. Violation of this law is punishable by way of summary citations issued by any Pennsylvania Law Enforcement officer. We strongly urge motorists to make safe choices, put phones out of reach and don’t text and drive.
