Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that work is scheduled to begin next week on the Route 30 bridge spanning Route 15 near Gettysburg in Adams County. This work, which initially was scheduled to begin Monday, May 12, is expected to take about two weeks to complete and will require long-term lane restrictions in both directions of Route 30.
Weather permitting, on Monday May 19, the contractor will begin work on the Route 30 bridge spanning Route 15. The left (inside) lanes of Route 30 will be closed in both directions from Smith Road in the Royal Farms/Gateway Gettysburg area to Shealer Road near Sheetz so the contractor can mill, perform deck repairs, apply waterproofing and pave the left lanes.
These restrictions will be in place through the Memorial Day weekend, including Monday, May 26. Travelers may encounter delays during this time.
Beginning Tuesday, May 27, the contractor will shift traffic to the left (inside) lanes so the same work can be performed in the right lanes. A right lane restriction will be in place through Friday, May 30, though it may be extended through Saturday, May 31. There will be a 10-foot lane restriction in place while work in the right lanes is being performed due to no shoulder along the left (inside) lanes.
In addition to the work on the Route 30 bridge, lane restrictions are tentatively planned for early June on northbound and southbound Route 15 from the Maryland state line to Steinwehr Avenue, and along a one-mile section of northbound Route 15 from MM 12.5 to 13.5 (approximately from the Huntertown Road overpass to about one mile north of the overpass) so new traffic counter loop sensors can be installed.
A press release will be issued once this work is confirmed.
All work is weather dependent.
This work is part of a 14.8-mile pavement preservation project that includes diamond grinding, milling and overlaying ramps and shoulders, guide rail replacement, pipe replacement, and other miscellaneous activities on Route 15 in Freedom, Cumberland, Mounty Joy and Straban townships, Adams County.
Travelers are reminded to be alert for these operations, to obey work zone signs, and to use caution when driving through work zones for their safety, as well as for the safety of the road crews.
