Bridge Work Begins Next Week on Route 42 and School House Road in Columbia County

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that bridge work begins next week on Mall Boulevard (Route 42) and School House Road (Route 4006) in Hemlock Township, Columbia County. Work on these projects is related to the multi-year reconstruction and resurfacing project on Interstate 80 in Columbia County.

Route 42 northbound (Mall Boulevard)

Between Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 7:00 PM and Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 6:00 AM, the right (driving) lane and shoulder will be closed between Lunger Drive and Buckhorn Road (Route 44), while the contractor applies a waterproof layer on the bridge deck. Additional work at this location will include paving and line painting, weather permitting.

School House Road

On Sunday, May 4, 2025 and Monday, May 5, 2025, between the hours of 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM, School House Road will be closed between Buckhorn Road and Frosty Valley Road (Route 4003), while the contractor begins deck repairs on the bridge over Interstate 80. A detour using Frosty Valley Road, Route 42, and Buckhorn Road will be in place while work is being performed. Work will be performed weather permitting.

Motorists should be alerts, slow down, expect delays in travel, and drive with caution.

New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., Inc. is the prime contractor for this $11.1 million reconstruction and resurfacing project. Work includes shoulder reconstruction, roadway resurfacing, structure preservation, signing, and other miscellaneous work. Work on this project is anticipated to be completed in June of 2025.
