PennDOT’s Westmoreland County Maintenance Update

Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Westmoreland County Maintenance Manager Dave Forkey has announced the following tentative work plan for the week of August 12, 2024. All maintenance activities are conducted depending on weather and operations.

Motorists can anticipate detours, flaggers, moving operations, and/or single-lane restrictions. Please drive with caution through all work areas and be alert for signed work zones requiring the use of headlights. Safety is everyone's responsibility.

Box culvert replacement:

  • Route 1005 (Shannon Creek Road) in Saint Clair Township.

Milling:

  • Route 30 in Unity Township.

Parallel ditching:

  • Route 3097 (Baltzer-Meyer Pike) in Hempfield Township.

Patching:

  • Various routes in Westmoreland County.
  • Route 3018 (Evanstown Road) in Sewickley Township.

Pipe installation:

  • Route 1006 (Creek Road) in Fairfield Township.

Pipe replacement:

  • Route 2012 (Depot Street) in Hempfield Township.

Pipe repair:

  • Route 2041 (Horseshoe Bend Road) in Cook Township.

Roadway restoration:

  • Route 3103 (Swede Hill Road) in Hempfield Township.

Seal coating:

  • Route 711 in Ligonier and Cook Townships.

Shoulder cutting:

  • Route 819 in South Huntingdon Township.

Shoulder stabilization:

  • Route 2025 in Mount Pleasant Township.

Side dozing:

  • Route 259 (Coal Pit Road) in Ligonier Township.

Slide repair:

  • Route 1067 (Loughner Road) in Fairfield Township.

Sweeping:

  • Route 70 in South Huntington Township.
  • Various in Westmoreland County.

Litter crews will be picking litter on various routes throughout the county as weather and other activities permit.

Signs will be updated, downed signs will be replaced, and work orders will be addressed on various state routes throughout the county.

PennDOT has a toll-free number for residents to call to report any road maintenance concern.  This number can also be utilized to report locations of dead deer on state highways.  The number is 1.800.FIX ROAD (1.800.349.7623). 

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
