PennDOT Honors Employees for Innovation and Dedication

Uniontown, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today recognized PennDOT employees with Innovation Awards for their efforts to improve work practices and create efficiencies. Six team members from PennDOT's District 12, which represents Fayette, Greene, Washington, and Westmoreland counties were among the honorees.

"PennDOT employees have demonstrated a tireless dedication to the Department's mission and goals," said PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll. "I'm proud to see so many examples of that dedication and recognize those employees for their creativity in solving problems and improving processes."

The annual Innovation Awards Ceremony recognizes some of the best and most innovative ideas cultivated and implemented by PennDOT employees across the Department. Employees who assessed and improved processes, systems, and tools they were using to meet the need of Pennsylvania drivers are considered for the award. Each employee receives a custom award that represents PennDOT's appreciation for their dedication and commitment to efficient and effective operations at all levels of the organization.

Carroll and other department executives honored winners William "Dale" Baird, Jeremey Edmonds, Ryan S. Medvitz, P.E., Brandon Ross, Matthew Walker, and Thomas Younkin. Baird, Edmonds, Medvitz, Ross, Walker, and Younkin were recognized for their successful 2023 reboot of the Foreman Safety Summit. Returning from a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the summit received overwhelmingly positive feedback. More than 80 foremen from Districts 10,11, and 12 were in attendance, sharing that the materials, discussions, and demonstrations were worthwhile to their first-level supervisory positions.

"I commend this group for having both the insight to recognize what practices from before COVID are still valuable and the initiative to see this through," said Acting District 12 Executive Jeremy Hughes.
