PennDOT Issues Update on Roadway Improvement Project on Route 522 in Mifflin County

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has issued an update for a project on approximately five miles of Route 522 in Lewistown Borough and Derry and Decatur townships in Mifflin County for the week of June 10. This work will improve deficiencies in the drainage throughout this corridor and improve the ride quality of the roadway and multiple structures within the project limits.

  • Monday, drainage work will continue between Patton Drive and Fox Ave. Crews will work on backfilling structures.
  • Tuesday, roadway widening will begin between Guss Road and Log Lane. Work will be performed in the left lane. The contractor will limit access from driveways/roads but provide access as needed.
  • Wednesday and Thursday work will be between Log Lane and Hill Side Terrace in the left lane.
  • Friday work will continue between Hill Side Terrace and Long Lane in the left lane. Access to driveways will be limited but can be provided as needed.

 
Single lane closures with flaggers are being utilized for this work. Work is scheduled during daylight hours. Long term signage will notify the public when entering the project limits. Workers will be in the roadway and motorists are advised to be alert for sudden stops. Motorists are asked to use caution in the area and be prepared for traffic delays.

This project involves roadway reconstruction, paving, drainage improvements, installation of guiderail, placement of pavement markings, bridge preservation work, and related tasks. Grannas Bros. Stone & Asphalt Co., Inc. is the contractor on this project, which has an estimated cost of $6.2 million project.

Project completion is estimated for late October 2024. All work and scheduling is weather dependent.
