District 6 Projects - Delaware County

Cheyney Road over Branch of Chester Creek Bridge Replacement

Project Overview

County: Delaware
Municipality: Thornbury Township
State Route: 4015
Local Name: Cheyney Road
Project Type: Bridge Replacement
Last Updated: August 2025

The existing structure, built in 1931, consists of a reinforced concrete slab with a concrete abutment and carries Cheyney Road over a branch of the Chester Creek in Thornbury Township, Delaware County. The proposed project involves replacing the current structure with a reinforced concrete box culvert. The new culvert will fit within approximately the same footprint as the existing one, but it will be widened asymmetrically (toward the downstream side) to include two 4-foot shoulders. To connect the new structure to the existing approach roadway, about 284 feet of roadway reconstruction is planned on each approach. During construction, existing guide rail widths will be removed and replaced according to current standards, with crash-worthy end treatments installed. Additional work will include updating pavement markings and roadway signage.
