Three-Bridge Project Continues with Work on Route 850 in Perry County

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a box culvert replacement project on Route 850 in Perry County is scheduled to begin next week. The bridge spans a tributary to Shermans Creek at Dromgold Drive just west of the intersection with Route 34 in Carroll Township.

Weather permitting, work will begin Monday, June 9. Most work will be completed off the road, though motorists may encounter intermittent single lane restrictions under flagging, as needed, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

The existing road will remain open until traffic a temporary access road can be built later this summer, likely sometime in August. Dromgold Road will be closed at Route 850 but will be accessible via Pisgah State Road.

This work is part of a three-bridge project that consists of box culvert replacements on Route 850 in Carroll Township and Route 274 in Spring Township and repairs to the Route 34 bridge over the Juniata River in Newport Borough.

Work on the Route 274 bridge, which spans Montour Creek between Limestone Ridge Road and Mahanoy Ridge Road in Spring Township, began in May. Traffic on the bridge is reduced to a single lane controlled by temporary traffic signals.

Work on the Route 34 bridge, which spans the Juniata River at Newport, is expected to begin later this summer. There will be lane restrictions under flagging during daylight hours.

Lobar Site Development Corporation of Dillsburg is the contractor on this $2,706,278 project. All work is expected to be completed by December 2026.
