Construction Continues on U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) Sinkhole Remediation Project in Upper Merion Township

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will continue through late September to reconstruct and reopen northbound U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) under a $22.4 million project to provide long-term sinkhole remediation on U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, and on Route 29 (Morehall Road) in East Whiteland Township, Chester County.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

During the closure of northbound U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike), motorists will continue to be directed to use Henderson Road and Saulin Boulevard. Local access will be maintained at all times.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when approaching the work area because significant backups and delays will occur.

Once northbound U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) construction is completed, work will shift to reconstruct southbound U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) through the same work area sometime in early 2026.

Under this project, PennDOT’s contractor will utilize a limited mobility grouting program, which will involve drilling a series of holes through the pavement in a “grid” pattern. Pressurized grout will be injected into the drilled holes to fill subsurface voids beneath the roadway. The filling of subsurface voids will help stabilize the ground beneath the pavement and will reduce the risk of future sinkholes. Additional work includes drainage improvements and pavement reconstruction.

Remediation of sinkholes on U.S. 202 (DeKalb Pike) and Route 29 (Morehall Road) were deemed necessary for a long-term solution following reoccurring sinkholes and emergency repairs resulting in traffic disruptions along both corridors.

Heidelberg Materials, LLC of northeast region, is the general contractor on this project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
