    PennDOT District 11 is announcing extended weekend-long single-lane restrictions in both directions on Route 28 in Harmar Township, Allegheny County, will begin Friday, September 8 weather permitting.

    ​Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing extended weekend-long single-lane restrictions in both directions on Route 28 in Harmar Township, Allegheny County, will begin Friday, September 8 weather permitting.

    Single-lane restrictions will occur in both directions on Route 28 on two bridges beginning Friday as crews perform expansion dam replacement work and approach roadway reconstruction according to the following schedule:

    Northbound

    • Beginning 6 p.m. Friday continuously through 3 p.m. Monday, September 11

    • Restrictions will occur on the bridge over Route 910 at the Harmar/I-76/Route 910 (Exit 11) interchange

    • Restrictions will also occur on the bridge over the Pennsylvania Turnpike, approximately one mile north of the Harmar/I-76/Route 910 (Exit 11) interchange

    Southbound

    • Beginning 9 a.m. Friday continuously through 6 a.m. Monday, September 11

    • Restrictions will occur on the bridge over Route 910 at the Harmar/I-76/Route 910 (Exit 11) interchange

    • Restrictions will also occur on the bridge over the Pennsylvania Turnpike, approximately one mile north of the Harmar/I-76/Route 910 (Exit 11) interchange

    The work is part of the $27.68 million highway restoration project on Route 28 between Harmar/I-76/Route 910 (Exit 11) and Russelton/Creighton (Exit 13) interchanges. Construction will include milling and resurfacing, concrete pavement preservation, bridge rehabilitation and preservation, guide rail and drainage improvements, ITS upgrades, highway lighting, traffic signals, ADA curb ramps installation, signing and pavement marking, and other miscellaneous operations. During much of construction, long-term single-lane restrictions will occur. Work is expected to conclude in early 2024. Swank Construction Company is the prime contractor.
