Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that core borings are scheduled at night next week on Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
- Monday, June 17, through Wednesday, June 19, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a left lane closures will be in place on northbound I-95 between the Allegheny Avenue and Betsy Ross Bridge interchanges for core borings.
- Tuesday, June 18, through Thursday, June 20, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a right lane closure will be in place on southbound I-95 between the Betsy Ross Bridge and Allegheny Avenue interchanges for core borings.
- Wednesday, June 19, and Thursday, June 20, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, alternating lane closures will be in place on northbound I-95 between the Cottman Avenue and Academy Road interchanges for line striping.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
The core borings are part of the design phase for PennDOT's upcoming I-95/AF3 project that will reconstruct northbound I-95 and its structures between Ann Street and Wheatsheaf Lane. Section AF3 is tentatively scheduled for construction in 2025.
This line striping is part of a $24.1 million project to upgrade and improve Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) components across the Philadelphia region. The ITS equipment will be used by PennDOT's Regional Traffic Management Center (RTMC) to monitor travel conditions and provide motorists with real-time information about area highways.
