Lane Closures Continue on Route 42 Near Buckhorn, Columbia County

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that lane closures on Route 42 (Mall Boulevard) near Buckhorn in Hemlock Township, Columbia County will continue. This project is part of a multi-year reconstruction and resurfacing project on Interstate 80 in Columbia County.

On Monday, May 12, 2025, the contractor will continue work on the bridges carrying Route 42 (Mall Boulevard) over Interstate 80. Work includes placing a waterproofing membrane on the bridge deck, paving and line painting. Motorists can expect lane closures, but all nearby entrance ramps to Interstate 80 will remain open.

Traffic Impacts

  • On Monday, May 12, 2025, Route 42 northbound right (driving) lane and shoulder between Mitchell Drive and Red Mill Road will be re-opened.
  • On Monday, May 12, 2025, upon the re-opening of the right (driving) lane, Route 42 northbound left (passing) lane and shoulder will be closed.
    • The left (passing) lane is anticipated to be closed into the evening of Tuesday, May 13, weather permitting.
  • Route 42 southbound right (driving) lane and shoulder between Route 44 (Buckhorn Road) and Lunger Drive will remain closed.
    • This lane is anticipated to be re-opened on the evening of Tuesday, May 13, weather permitting.

Motorists should be alert, slow down, expect delays in travel, watch for stopped or slow-moving vehicle, watch for lane changes, and drive with caution through the work zone.

New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., Inc. is the prime contractor for this $11.1 million reconstruction and resurfacing project. Work includes shoulder reconstruction, roadway resurfacing, structure preservation, signing, and other miscellaneous work. Work on this project is anticipated to be completed in June of 2025.
