Roadway Construction Scheduled on Route 611 (Broad Street) Safety Improvement Project in Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that roadway construction is scheduled on Route 611 (Broad Street) under a $2.1 million project to improve safety along a 1.1-mile section of the corridor from Allegheny Avenue to Hunting Park Avenue.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this safety improvement project, PennDOT will enhance the project corridor by replacing the two-way left-turn lane with raised concrete medians, including ADA ramps, adding lane separator curbs, and upgrading pavement markings at all crosswalks.

The project aims to improve safety along the corridor by reducing the high frequency of pedestrian, angle, and rear-end crashes.

James J. Anderson Construction Company, Inc., of Philadelphia, is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. Physical construction on the project is expected to finish in summer 2025.
