Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) alerted motorists that work on a box culvert replacement project along Route 2012 in Monroe Township, Juniata County, will start on Thursday, July 20. Replacing the structure, which spans a tributary of Stony Run approximately three miles east of Cocolamus, will improve its overall condition from poor to good.
Starting July 20, PennDOT will close the structure and implement a detour using Route 2013, Route 35 and Route 2017 (Evendale Hill Road). PennDOT anticipates the bridge remaining closed until mid-August, but all work is weather and schedule dependent.
The project is a joint effort between PennDOT Juniata County Maintenance and Nestlerode Contracting Co., Inc. of Lock Haven, PA. PennDOT crews will perform excavation and backfilling, and the contractor will install the new box culvert, guide rail, and complete approach paving. The dollar value of this project is $349,000.
Built in 1953, the existing culvert is 10 feet long and carries an average of 269 vehicles daily.
