PennDOT’s Fayette County Maintenance Update

Week of May 5, 2025

Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Fayette County Maintenance Manager Jason L. Spangler has announced the following tentative work plan for the week of May 5. All maintenance activities depend on weather and operations.

Motorists can anticipate detours, flaggers, moving operations, and/or single-lane restrictions. Please drive cautiously through all work areas and be alert for signed work zones requiring headlights. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Bridge replacement:

  • Route 1002 (Banning Road) over a branch of Laurel Run in Lower Tyrone Township
    • Road closed between Keffer Road and Route 1041 (Chaintown Road/School Road)
      • Detour:
        • Route 1002 (Banning Road)
        • Route 1004 (Cottom Road)
        • Route 1041 (Chaintown Road)

Brushing/sloping:

  • Route 1018 (Vances Mill Road) in North Union Township
  • Route 1051 (Bute Road) in North Union Township
  • Various routes in Chalk Hill, Wharton Township, and Springhill Township

Drainage cleaning:

  • Route 381 (Champion Road) in Saltlick Township
  • Route 381 (Ohiopyle Millrun Road) in Stewart Township

Seal coating:

  • Route 653 (Jim Mountain Road) in Springfield Township
  • Route 1001 (Kooser Road) in Springfield Township
  • Route 1062 (Cranberry Lake Road) in Springfield Township
  • Route 2017 (Maple Summit Road) in Stewart Township

Shoulder cutting:

  • Route 166 (Edenborn Road) in German Township
  • Route 3023 (Footedale Road) in German Township
  • Route 4004 (Ralph New Salem Road) in German Township
  • Route 4006 (New Salem Road) in Menallen Township

Sign upgrading:

  • Various routes countywide

Washout clean-up:

  • Route 4022 (Labelle Road) in Luzerne Township

Crews will pick litter, replace downed and update signs, and address work orders on various state routes countywide. 

PennDOT has a toll-free number—1-800-FIX-ROAD (1-800-349-7623)—for residents to report road maintenance concerns and the locations of dead deer on state highways.

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, available free of charge 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to over 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices by calling 5-1-1 or following regional X alerts.
