Bridge Replacement Project Set to Begin on Route 220 in Towanda Township, Bradford County

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that a bridge replacement project is set to begin this week on Route 220 in Towanda Township, Bradford County. The bridge, which carries Route 220 over a tributary to the Towanda Creek, is located 1.6 miles northeast of the intersection with Route 3009 (Burlington Turnpike) in Monroe and approximately 0.6 mile southwest of the intersection with Route 2027 (South Main Street), south of Towanda Borough.

On Tuesday, May 16, 2023, the contractor, Glenn O Hawbaker, will begin relocating a water main on Route 220 just south of Towanda Borough. Motorists can expect single lane restriction where work is being performed. The water main relocation is expected to be completed by the end of May 2023, weather permitting.

A temporary roadway will be built prior to the bridge being removed, allowing two lanes of traffic to flow during excavation and placement of the new box culvert.

Glenn O. Hawbaker is the prime contractor for this $2,356,356 bridge replacement project. Work includes removal of existing culvert, construction of a precast concrete box, milling and placement of scratch and wearing course between Monroeton and Towanda, installation of a protective fence and new sign placement in Ulster and New Albany.  Work is expected to be completed in October of 2023.

Motorists should be alert, slow down, watch for lane changes, expect delays in travel, and drive with caution.
