Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that a detour around the site of a slide repair on Route 74 in Turbett Township, Juniata County, will remain in place until late next week. This work will improve safety and ride quality for motorists by resurfacing the roadway and extending the service life of the deteriorating surface.
PennDOT closed the road July 8 and anticipated reopening it Monday, July 22, but crews encountered unforeseen field conditions that extended the project. PennDOT now anticipates reopening the roadway close of business on Thursday, July 25, and will reopen sooner should work progress allow. All work is weather-dependent.
The detour utilizing Route 74 (Tuscarora Mountain Road), Route 22, and Route 17 (Raccoon Valley Road) remains unchanged.
This slide repair is part of a larger project to improve approximately 15.5 miles of roadway in Juniata and Mifflin counties. Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. is the contractor on this $3.4 million project. The slide repair accounts for approximately $550,000 of the total contract amount. PennDOT will issue updates before the start of work on the other roadways impacted by this project.
