PennDOT Announces Online Plans Display for the Route 4006 (Enders Road) Bridge Replacement Project in Jackson Township, Dauphin County

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to an online plan display regarding the Route 4006 (Enders Road) structure replacement project over Armstrong Creek located in Jackson Township, Dauphin County. The purpose of this project is to replace the currently closed bridge which was constructed in 1920 and to provide safe and efficient access on Route 4006.

The project consists of replacing the concrete arch with a single span, prestressed concrete box beam bridge on a slightly shifted alignment, reconstructing the pavement along the roadway tie-ins and guide rail replacement. The bridge will be widened from the existing 13-foot, 2.5-inch curb-to-curb width to 25-foot, 5.5-inch curb-to-curb width consisting of two 10-foot lanes and two 2-foot minimum width shoulders.

This section of Enders Road has an average daily traffic volume of 228 vehicles per day.

The bridge is currently closed to traffic. The existing detour will remain in place and signing along the detour will be enhanced. The 4.8-mile detour route will use Route 225 to Route 4004 (Rutter Road).

The project is currently in design and construction work is expected to take place during the 2026 construction season.

The estimated construction cost is $2,130,000.

The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and solicit public input, questions, or concerns regarding the project.

A digital version of the information will be available to view online from December 20, 2024, to January 20, 2025.
