Bridge Repair Begins Monday on Westbound Girard Avenue (U.S. 13 South) over Kelly Drive, Schuylkill River in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that bridge repair will begin next week on the structure that carries Girard Avenue (U.S. 13) over Kelly Drive and the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Pedestrians and cyclists are advised that a detour will be put in place sometime later this month when the sidewalk closes on westbound Girard Avenue (U.S. 13 South) over Kelly Drive and the Schuylkill River. Pedestrians and cyclists will be directed to follow the posted detour.

Built in 1972, the 735-foot-long, four-span, steel rigid frame Girard Avenue bridge carries approximately 42,549 vehicles per day with about 21,400 vehicles per day traveling westbound.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.
