Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a short-term closure is planned at the Route 274 culvert replacement project in Perry County.
The structure, which spans Montour Creek between Limestone Ridge Road and Mahanoy Ridge Road in Spring Township, will be closed for several days in July so the contractor can set new box culvert sections. The crane being used for this work is too large to allow the structure to remain open.
Weather permitting, the bridge will be closed Tuesday, July 8, and reopen sometime during the afternoon of Friday, July 11. A detour will be in place using Route 74, Route 850 and Route 34.
Once the bridge reopens, a single lane will be open on the bridge with temporary signals providing traffic control.
This work is part of a three-bridge project in Perry County that consists of box culvert replacements on Route 274 in Spring Township and Route 850 in Carroll Township and repairs to the Route 34 bridge over the Juniata River in Newport Borough.
Work on the Route 850 bridge, which spans a tributary to Shermans Creek just west of Route 34 will begin in early this summer. A temporary access road will be constructed first to allow two-way traffic to travel around the work area.
Work on the Route 34 bridge, which spans the Juniata River at Newport, is expected to begin later this summer. There will be lane restrictions under flagging during daylight hours.
Releases will be issued prior to the work starting on the bridges.
Lobar Site Development Corporation of Dillsburg is the contractor on this $2,706,278 project. All work is expected to be completed by December 2026.
