King of Prussia, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that viaduct construction will continue through the summer on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) under a substantially-completed project to rehabilitate the Wayne Junction Viaduct in Philadelphia.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
- Mondays through Fridays from 6:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, periodic right lane and/or left closures will be in place on southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) between 17th Street and Fox Street; and
- Mondays through Fridays from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, periodic right and/or left lane closures will be in place on northbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) between Fox Street and 17th Street.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
During any nighttime operations, PennDOT's contractor will compete punch-list and other miscellaneous construction on the project to rehabilitate and improve the U.S.1 (Roosevelt Expressway) structure over the SEPTA tracks and the Nicetown neighborhood. Long-term roadway work wrapped up in early July, substantially completing the $95.5 million improvement project.
The Cayuga Street ramp to southbound U.S.1 (Roosevelt Expressway) will remain closed until completion of the "punch list" work this fall.
South State, Inc. of Bridgeton, N.J. is the general contractor on the bridge improvement project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
