Highway Resurfacing in Juniata, Mifflin Counties Starts Tuesday

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that a highway resurfacing project impacting roads in Juniata and Mifflin County will start on Tuesday, June 17. This project will improve ride quality and extend the service life of approximately two-and-a-quarter miles of roadway.

Starting Tuesday, drivers should expect to encounter flaggers in the roadway during daylight hours while the contractor begins milling operations on Route 1005 (Electric Avenue) between Route 3023 (Ort Valley Road) and Route 4013 (West Freedom Avenue) in Derry Township and Burnham Borough in Mifflin County. PennDOT urged drivers to build extra travel time into their schedule as it anticipates minor delays. It also urged them to watch for slow-moving and stopped vehicles while passing through the work zone and to obey posted signage and speed limits.

The contractor will also begin milling and paving operations on Route 35 in Mifflintown Borough, Juniata County, on Tuesday evening. Work will start at North Street and continue southbound to the roundabout in Fermanagh Township and onto Route 3002 (Main Street). Route 35 will be closed between Route 2006 (Cedar Street/Cedar Springs Road) and Route 3005 (Nelson Road) and between the roundabout and Route 333. Traffic will follow a detour using Cross Street, Main Street, Route 75, and Route 333 to navigate around the work zone, and on-street parking along Route 35 will be prohibited while this work takes place.

Work on this project includes milling, paving, guide rail installation, pavement marking, and miscellaneous construction. Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc., of State College, PA, is the contractor on this $1.3 million project. PennDOT anticipates project completion in mid-July. All work is weather-dependent.
