Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that drivers on Route 22 will encounter single-lane closure near the Arch Rock Road Interchange in Fermanagh Township, Juniata County, starting next week. These lane closures are part of the preliminary work for a safety improvement project to install a high-tensioned cable median barrier to prevent vehicles from crossing over into oncoming traffic along approximately 2.5 miles of roadway.
On Monday, the contractor will close the left (passing) lane of Route 22 westbound near the interchange. PennDOT anticipates minimal traffic impacts but urges drivers to exercise caution, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up. The contractor will reopen all lanes at the close of business each day.
Once the contractor finishes work on the westbound lanes, work will shift to the passing lane on the eastbound lane near the interchange. The contractor will also reopen all lanes at the close of each workday. Traffic impacts should be minimal.
PennDOT expects these single-lane closures to continue for approximately two weeks, but all work is weather-dependent. Installation of the barrier will occur later in the 2025 construction season. PennDOT will issue an update on how that installation will impact motorists when it starts. Kriger Construction, Inc., of Scranton, PA, is the contractor on this $893,000 project.
