Route 77 has reopened to traffic at the intersection with Route 8 in Bloomfield Township, Crawford County.
The roadway had been closed since May 2025 as part of a $4 million project to increase driver visibility at the intersection, which is located near the borders with Athens, Sparta, and Rome townships.
The project includes the installation of a new flashing beacon at the intersection, improvements to the roadway shoulders, asphalt and concrete paving, and upgrades to drainage, signage and pavement markings.
Work is expected to continue on the project through late September.
Motorists may still encounter lane restrictions on Route 8 with traffic controlled by flaggers.
The contractor is Glen O. Hawbaker, Inc of State College, PA. The contract cost is $2,994,994, which is being funded with a combination of state and federal money.
PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
This year PennDOT’s Northwest Region expects to work on more than 100 projects. To see a full listing of all the anticipated work, check out the 2025 Construction Book located under the Partner Resources section at www.penndot.pa.gov/District1.
