UPDATE: 6/27/25 - The contractor has moved the date for reopening U.S. 219 (Ditter’s Curve) to two-way unrestricted traffic from Thursday, July 3, to Friday, July 11, 2025
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists of minor traffic delays continuing next week on U.S. 219 (Ditter’s Curve) in Northern Cambria Borough, Cambria County, as the project nears the end of its single-lane restriction.
On Monday, June 30, contractors will be placing asphalt for phase 2 of the U.S. 219 (Ditter’s Curve) reconstruction project, and subcontractors will be completing sidewalks.
On Monday, July 7, subcontractors will be working on signal pole foundations on U.S. 219 at the Barr Avenue and 24th Street / Nicktown Hill Road intersections. The contractor has tentatively schedule Friday, July 11, 2025, as the date to lift the single-lane restriction and width restrictions and open the site to two-way unrestricted traffic. The work is weather dependent.
Quaker Sales, Inc., Johnstown, PA, is the contractor for the $5,199,141.47 project, slated for completion in the 2025 construction season, which includes resurfacing, base repairs, guide rail and drainage upgrades, traffic signal replacements, and geometric curve improvements on U.S. 219.
Contractors will conduct work under daylight flagging, with the potential for traffic delays not to exceed 15 minutes.
As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.
Additionally, PennDOT reminds motorists that as of June 5, 2025, the "Paul Miller's Law" is in effect. This law prohibits the use of hand-held devices while driving, even while stopped temporarily due to traffic, a red light, or other momentary delay. Violation of this law is punishable by way of summary citations issued by any Pennsylvania Law Enforcement officer. We strongly urge motorists to make safe choices, put phones out of reach and don’t text and drive.
