Minor delays expected on Route 36 (Union Avenue) in Blair County Beginning the week of May 6

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists to expect delays beginning the week of May 26, 2025, on along Route 36 (Union Avenue) between Baker Court and 31st Street in the City of Altoona and Logan Township for concrete curb construction.

Contractors will also be constructing ADA curb ramps along 18th Street near 13th Avenue and 12th Avenue, and asphalt patching from the intersection of Route 36 (Union Avenue) and Plank Road, working toward Baker Court in the City of Altoona and Logan Township.

Minor delays are expected. As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.

The work is part of the Mill Run bridge project, slated to be completed during the 2025 construction season. Cottle’s Asphalt Maintenance, Inc., of Everett, PA, is the contractor for the $7,434,773.35 project, which includes the replacement of the bridge, installation of a left-turn lane from Route 36 onto 31st Street (City Street), improved drainage, and guide rail upgrades over 4.218 miles of roadway.
