Update: Speed Limit Restrictions in Place on Roads in the South-Central PA Region

Harrisburg, PA – Due to the severity of the winter storm, PennDOT has temporarily reduced the speed limit on several roadways in the southcentral Pennsylvania region.

PennDOT is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel but those who must head out will see speeds reduced to 45 mph on the following highways:   

  • Interstate 78 from Interstate 81 to the Berks County line.
  • Interstate 283 from Interstate 76 to Interstate 83 (entire length).
  • Route 30 from Route 15 to Route 23 (Walnut Street).
  • Route 222 in Lancaster County.
  • Route 322 from I-83 to the Dauphin County/Lebanon County line.
  • Route 283 from I-283 to Route 30 (entire length). New

Additionally, the speed limit on I-81 has been reduced to 55 mph in Lebanon County from I-78 to the Schuylkill County line.

PennDOT is continuing to treat roadways in the area and will continue until roads are clear.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles, by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
