Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that an intersection improvement and resurfacing project on Route 34 (Spring Road) and Cavalry Road (Route 1001) in North Middleton and Middlesex townships, Cumberland County, is expected to begin soon.
This project includes reconstruction of the intersection of Route 34 and Cavalry Road and resurfacing and other construction on Route 34 from Route 944 (Enola Road) to the Carlisle Borough line, and on Cavalry Road from Route 34 to Route 11 (Harrisburg Pike).
Weather permitting, the contractor will begin night work at 9:00 PM Tuesday, September 5. Anticipated work includes base repairs, drainage upgrades, and paving on the northern section of Route 34. The contractor is expected to complete paving of both lanes of Route 34 from just north of Cavalry Road to Route 944 during this construction season.
There will be short-term lane restrictions under flagging Sunday through Thursday nights from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, with the option for Friday night work as a rain date. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained during non-work hours.
The reconstruction of the Route 34/Cavalry Road intersection will begin after the northern section paving is complete and will continue as weather permits. This work will require a weekend closure of Cavalry Road. An updated press release will be issued in advance of the closure.
When the work at the intersection has been completed, the contractor will pave the remainder of Route 34 and Cavalry Road.
All work is expected to be completed by July 25, 2024.
Pennsy Supply, Inc., of Harrisburg is the prime contractor on this $4,242,793.30 project. Work is expected to be completed by November 2024.
