PennDOT Announces Online Plan Display for Derry Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project in Dauphin County

Plans also to be available for review at the Swatara Township and Paxtang Borough municipal buildings

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to an online plan display regarding the Route 3012 (Derry Street) Bridge Rehabilitation Project in Dauphin County. The bridge carries Derry Street over Spring Creek between Wilhelm Road and Rosewood Lane in Swatara Township and Paxtang Borough.

The proposed project will rehabilitate the bridge over Spring Creek in a two lane, two-way section of Derry Street. This will include replacing bridge beams, the bridge deck, repairing the northeast wing wall and rehabilitating the abutments.

The bridge will be constructed in half widths while maintaining car traffic in both directions. Truck traffic will be detoured due to narrow lanes. During removal and installation of the bridge beams, up to four weekend full closures will occur.

Signing, pavement markings, and minor drainage may be updated. Additionally, there will be some traffic calming enacted to slow traffic during construction.

The project is currently in design, and construction work is expected to take place in the 2027 and 2028 construction seasons. The duration of construction is anticipated to last 12-to-18 months.

A digital version of the project plans and information will be available to view online through April 22, 2025. The hard copy plans will also be available for review at the Swatara Township and Paxtang Borough municipal buildings during the same time period.

Information, including bridge plans and an interactive comment form, can be found by visiting the PennDOT District 8 website, PennDOT District 8, clicking Projects Near You listed on the left side of the page, then the District 8 Projects, and choosing Route 3012 Derry Street Bridge Rehabilitation.
