Lane restrictions will be in place during the night; all lanes will be open during the day
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a contractor is expected to begin shifting traffic at the median barrier project on the Route 30 (Wrights Ferry) Bridge spanning the Susquehanna River between Hellam Township in York County and Columbia Borough in Lancaster County. This work consists of setting up a long-term lane shift to move traffic out of the left lanes in both directions so the median barrier across the entire structure can be replaced.
Weather permitting, work will be performed from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM Sunday through Thursday nights starting Sunday, October 1. Traffic will be restricted to a single lane in both directions on the bridge during work hours. Two lanes of traffic will be open in both directions during non-work hours.
The traffic shift is expected to take at least a week to complete, after which two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction while the median barrier is replaced.
This project includes improvements to the median barrier and other construction activities.
JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA is the prime contractor on this $5,247,787 project. Work is expected to be completed by November 2024.
