Update: Motorists Advised of Road Restrictions for Presidential Debate in Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that temporary road restrictions will be in place to support traffic flow and security associated with the September 10 Presidential Debate in Philadelphia. The debate will start at 9:00 PM at the National Constitution Center (NCC) at 6th and Arch streets in Philadelphia.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions coordinated with local, state, federal enforcement, and other officials:
  • 6th Street is closed between Callowhill Street and Market Street. Motorists traveling in both directions on I-95 will be directed to use the Betsy Ross Bridge or the Walt Whitman Bridge.
  • The eastbound I-676 off-ramp towards Benjamin Franklin Bridge and 6th Street is closed. During the closure, motorists will be directed to use the Betsy Ross Bridge and the Walt Whitman Bridge.
Once the event ends and the security perimeter is gradually deconstructed, 6th Street and the eastbound I-676 off-ramp will reopen. Philadelphia city streets will also gradually reopen. Motorists can find more information about the city street closures on the City of Philadelphia’s website

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the road restrictions because backups and delays will occur.

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
