King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today construction will begin next week on a $2.6 million project to implement safety improvements aimed at reducing serious injury and fatal crashes involving Vulnerable Road Users (VRU) across the five-county Philadelphia region.
A VRU is a non-motorized roadway user, such as a pedestrian or bicyclist. The project includes the installation of reflective centerline and shoulder line striping, retroreflective advisory signage, speed cushions, delineator posts, and rectangular rapid flash beacons (RRFB). It will also implement roadway context-appropriate traffic calming strategies, with a specific focus on speed management, to address non-motorized roadway user safety in urban areas.
Beginning Monday, September 23, through Wednesday, September 25, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a lane closure is scheduled on northbound U.S. 202 (Dekalb Street) between Roberts Street and Wood Street in Norristown, Montgomery County.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Kuharchik Construction, Inc. of Exeter, Pennsylvania, is the general contractor on this project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. Physical construction on the project is expected to finish in early 2026.
Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
