Construction Scheduled at Night Next Week on I-95 in Northeast Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that core borings and barrier resetting are scheduled at night next week on Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. These operations are weather dependent.

If the core borings on the northbound ramp to the Betsy Ross Bridge finish before the end of the week, the core boring crew will move to the northbound mainline and begin work from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, closing a right lane on northbound I-95 between the Allegheny Avenue and Betsy Ross Bridge interchanges.

The core borings are part of the design phase for PennDOT's upcoming I-95 Section AF3 project that will reconstruct northbound I-95 and its structures between Ann Street and Wheatsheaf Lane. Section AF3 is tentatively scheduled for construction in 2025.

The barrier work is part of the traffic pattern setup for reconstruction of the southbound lanes at the Bridge Street Interchange under PennDOT's $268 million I-95 Section BS2 project to reconstruct I-95 between Carver an Margaret streets and improve the Bridge Street Interchange.
