Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that pavement markings, speed cushions, and curb installations are planned next week on Lehigh Avenue in Philadelphia under a $2.6 million project to implement safety improvements aimed at reducing serious injury and fatal crashes involving Vulnerable Road Users (VRU) across the five-county Philadelphia region.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:
- Monday, May 12, through Friday, May 30, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a weekday lane closure including weekends is scheduled on Lehigh Avenue in both directions between Aramingo Avenue and Fairhill Street.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Kuharchik Construction, Inc. of Exeter, Pennsylvania, is the general contractor on this project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
