Weight Restriction Announced for Hecktown Road Bridge over US 22 in Bethlehem Township

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists in Northampton County the Hecktown Road bridge over US 22 in Bethlehem Township has been posted with a weight restriction.

A 19 ton weight limit has been placed on the Hecktown Road bridge between Green Pond and Hanoverville roads and will be in place until further notice. PennDOT posted this weight restriction after a recent inspection determined structural damage to several steel bridge girders cannot handle the maximum legal load of 40 tons. 

Vehicles over 19 tons will need to use an alternate route. 

The Hecktown Road Bridge is a 93 feet long, 32 feet wide steel girder bridge built in 1954. This section of Hecktown Road has an average daily traffic volume of 6,287 vehicles.
