Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that a roadway preservation project continues next week on Route 45 in Buffalo and East Buffalo townships, Union County.
Starting Monday, June 16, 2025, the contractor, Vestal Asphalt, Inc., will be working on Route 45 between Hardees Drive and Bull Run. Work on the project includes removal of the existing pavement markings, application of micro-surface, and final line paint.
Work next week will take place Monday, June 16, 2025, through Thursday, June 19, 2025, between the hours of 6:00 PM and 7:00 AM. The following week, work will take place Sunday, June 22, 2025, through Thursday, June 26, 2025, between the hours of 6:00 PM and 7:00 AM. Motorists can expect alternating lane conditions during these hours.
Micro-surface is a layer of material that is placed on a good condition roadway to seal the road and prevent further damage. Applied to the surface of the roadway, the material is mixed with crushed stone, which adds skid resistance, seals existing cracks, and restricts moisture, extending the life of the pavement another five to seven years.
Vestal Asphalt, Inc., is the prime contractor for this $1.7 million pavement preservation project. This project combines three projects into one and includes the micro-surface of 7 miles of Route 11 between North Main Street and Penns Creek in Union Township, Snyder County, the micro-surface of 6 miles of Route 45 between Hardees Drive and Bull Run in Buffalo and East Buffalo townships, Union County, and the micro-surface of 1.6 miles of Locust Gap Highway (Route 2038) between Route 54 and Fifth Street in Mount Carmel Township, Northumberland County. Work on this project is anticipated to be completed in the October 2025, weather permitting.
