Route 4003 McKnight Road Nightly Paving Operations Begin Saturday in Allegheny County

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing nightly paving operations on Route 4003 (McKnight Road) in Ross and McCandless townships, Allegheny County will begin Saturday night, May 17 weather permitting.

Crews will conduct paving operations each night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Friday morning, May 23 according to the following schedule:

Saturday, May 17

  • Single-lane restrictions will occur on the southbound off-ramp to Babcock Boulevard
  • Southbound McKnight Road will be reduced to a single-lane of traffic between Perrymont Road and Babcock Boulevard

Sunday, May 18

  • No work will occur after 6 a.m.

Monday, May 19

  • Single-lane restrictions will occur on the northbound on and off-ramps at Peebles Road
  • Single-lane restrictions will occur the northbound off-ramp to Babcock Boulevard
  • Southbound McKnight Road will be reduced to a single-lane of traffic between Perrymont Road and Babcock Boulevard

Tuesday, May 20

  • Southbound McKnight Road will be reduced to a single-lane of traffic between Perrymont Road and Babcock Boulevard

Wednesday, May 21

  • Southbound McKnight Road will be reduced to a single-lane of traffic between Perrymont Road and the Westview/Babcock Boulevard interchange

Thursday, May 22

  • Southbound McKnight Road will be reduced to a single-lane of traffic between Perrymont Road and the Westview/Babcock Boulevard interchange

Motorists will still have access to the businesses and side streets along the corridor. Motorists may be directed around the roadwork by flagging operations as needed.

All work listed above is weather pending, additional details will be provided regarding schedule changes if inclement weather occurs.

Please use caution if traveling in the corridor. Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility.

This $26.99 million McKnight Road improvement project began in February 2024 between Venture Street and Perrymont Road in the City of Pittsburgh, and Ross and McCandless townships, including Babcock Boulevard/Evergreen Road. Work includes bridge and culvert preservation, milling and paving, base repairs, drainage upgrades, pipe cleaning, guide rail, signal, and ADA ramp upgrades, waterline replacement, concrete mountable curb replacement and new signage and pavement markings. Remaining work in the southbound direction includes drainage updates, milling and paving, and side road adjustments under a lane closure. Side road adjustments and ramp work will occur in the northbound direction. Work is expected to conclude in the summer of 2025. Lindy Paving, Inc. is the prime contractor.
