Paving Project Underway in Cranberry and Rockland Townships, Venango County

Work has begun on a $4.1 million resurfacing project that will give motorists a smoother ride on more than 10 miles of roadway in Rockland and Cranberry townships, Venango County.

Roads to be improved include:

  • East State Road (Route 2006) – from Route 257 to the intersection with Hill City Road (Route 2015) in Cranberry Township; 3.6 miles;

  • Rockland Cranberry Road (Route 2013) – from the East Sandy Creek Bridge to Route 322 in Rockland and Cranberry Townships; 2.6 miles; and

  • Deep Hollow Road (Route 2035) – from Route 322 to Bredinsburg Road (Route 2006) in Cranberry Township; 4.2 miles.

Work will include milling and paving, drainage and guiderail updates, shoulder backup, and sealcoating.

The project will also include the replacement of a deteriorated metal pipe culvert on East State Road (Route 2006) between the intersections with Horsecreek Road and Hill City Road (Route 2015).

A portion of East State Road is expected to be closed for approximately one week beginning on August 21, 2023, for the replacement of the pipe culvert. An 8.6-mile detour will be posted using Hill City Road, Mapleshade Road (Route 2004), Route 322, and Route 257.

The entire project is expected to completed by spring 2024.

During the remainder of the project, motorists may encounter lane restrictions with traffic controlled by flaggers and should anticipate travel delays during active work hours.

The contractor is Commercial Asphalt Supply, Inc. of Slippery Rock, PA. The contract cost is $4,125,512, which is to be paid entirely with state funds.
