Rockdale Road will be closed starting next week as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) replaces the roadway pipe at the border of Bloomfield and Rockdale townships in Crawford County.
The corrugated metal pipe will be replaced with a concrete box culvert that will carry the roadway over Federal Run. Work will also include a short portion of milling and paving as well as shoulder backup as needed.
The work area is located on Rockdale Road (Route 1007) approximately 300 feet north of the intersection with Forest Home Road.
The roadway near the work area is expected to close June 9, 2025, weather permitting, and reopen in mid-July 2025.
The existing pipe was installed 1988 and is rated in poor condition. Approximately 200 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.
A detour will be posted using Brown Hill Road (Route 1016), Shreve Ridge Road (Route 1039), and Old Meadville Road.
Work will be completed by PennDOT employees from the Crawford County facility with the assistance of Allison Park Contractors of Gibsonia, PA.
The cost of the contractor, which includes work on Fry Road later this summer, is $339,000. It is being funded entirely with state money.
PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
